 My first visit to The Diamond was pre-2008 when the tenant was the AAA Richmond Braves. The Braves played in Richmond from 1966-2008 before moving to Gwinnett County, Georgia. |
 By the time I returned to The Diamond, the Braves name had been removed from the scoreboard and was replaced by the AA level Richmond Flying Squirrels logo. |
 After a year with no professional baseball at The Diamond, the Flying Squirels arrived from Connecticut where they were known as the Defenders. |
 Before that the franchise was located in Norwich, Albany, and West Haven and were the Navigators, Yankees, A's, and Whitecaps. |
 The Diamond is owned by the local government, who leases it to Virginia Commonwealth University. It used to seat over 12,000, but the Flying Squirrels put advertising banners along the top sections which reduced the capacity to under 10,000. |
